STEP Viewer Online: Open STP Files & Measure CAD

Open STEP and STP files in a real 3D viewer. Inspect parts, units and geometry properties without an account.

Before you use the result

Know what you are looking at.

Start with the STEP or STP file you received. Check its units, the bodies that were loaded and whether the display represents surfaces, a valid solid or a mesh.

01

Look beyond the silhouette

Check the expected bodies, assembly organization and units. A clean shaded view can conceal missing information. Identify the actual geometry representation and any warnings before treating the model as ready for downstream use.

02

Separate viewing from calculation

The image used for display may be a tessellation. Area and volume should come from an appropriate, validated calculation path, with the method visible. If a solid is not suitable for volume, show why the result is unavailable instead of reporting zero.

03

Choose a focused next task

Use the dimensions tool for an envelope or distance check, the weight tool for a documented density scenario, and an external CAD application if you need a mesh export; conversion is not available here. Different tasks use the same input but do not make the same promises.

A reproducible example

Generated STEP block: 20 × 30 × 40 mm, surface area 5,200 mm² and volume 24,000 mm³. At density 2.7 g/cm³ the calculated mass is 64.8 g. These values describe the synthetic block, not the default bearing sample.

Repository-generated samples are synthetic test models. Verify your own model's units and geometry before using results.

Questions about this task

Know the limits.

Can I inspect assembly instances?

Self-contained STEP assemblies preserve readable names, colors and placements. Totals count repeated instances; overlapping parts are not subtracted.

Can I measure a hole?

Full cylindrical through holes and flat-bottom blind holes may expose depth. Stepped, intersecting and conical-bottom holes remain unclassified.

Are my files uploaded?

Selecting a file starts temporary server processing. Access is limited to your guest session. The entry shows configured retention and files can be deleted earlier.
