Inspect the source before converting

Open the Parasolid file first and confirm that the expected solid or bodies are present. Check a known dimension and the model scale. Converting the wrong source file perfectly still produces the wrong deliverable.

Exact STEP or mesh STEP

Exact STEP keeps surfaces and edges for CAD and CAM. If any face is omitted or approximated, exact STEP is disabled and the Convert dialog offers a mesh STEP, STL, OBJ, 3MF, glTF and GLB built from the preview triangles. A mesh STEP suits review and overall size, not machining features.

STEP does not carry Parasolid history

The output is intended for neutral geometry exchange. It does not reconstruct sketches, constraints, feature history or application-specific design intent.

Verify units and overall dimensions

After conversion, compare a known source dimension with the STEP result. A unit mistake can create a plausible-looking model at the wrong physical scale. Record whether the handoff is millimetres, inches or another agreed unit.

Check bodies and downstream usability

Confirm body count, orientation and any critical holes, pockets or mating surfaces. When the next workflow is CAM, quoting or supplier review, open the STEP in that receiving workflow where practical rather than relying only on a conversion-success message.

Keep the original Parasolid file

Treat the STEP as a derivative deliverable. Keep the original X_T or X_B unchanged with its revision context so a later conversion can be reproduced or compared if the receiving system reports a problem.

Questions about this task

Can I convert X_T to STEP online?

Yes, for text X_T and binary X_B files. Upload, inspect, sign in and choose STEP. Exact STEP is offered when every face is reconstructed; otherwise a mesh STEP.

Is X_T the same as X_B?

No. X_T is the text Parasolid form and X_B the binary form. CADProps reads both; renaming one to the other does not change the encoding.

Will STEP preserve the Parasolid feature tree?

No. STEP is a neutral exchange representation and does not restore the original parametric modeling history.

How should I verify the converted STEP?

Check units, one known dimension, expected bodies or components, and one or two critical geometric features in the receiving workflow.

Can I convert a bad or unreadable X_T by renaming it?

No. Renaming the extension does not translate the data. Ask for the original source information or a fresh export.
