Use it when you need to inspect a SolidWorks file without installing SolidWorks, diagnose missing assembly components or create a neutral STEP handoff.
Open SolidWorks files online
Use the SLDPRT/SLDASM viewer for supported native files.
For a standalone part, upload the SLDPRT directly. For an assembly, package the top-level SLDASM together with referenced SLDPRT and nested SLDASM files in a ZIP.
Convert SolidWorks to STEP
Use the SolidWorks to STEP converter when the receiving CAD/CAM workflow needs neutral geometry.
Verify at least one known dimension, expected bodies/components and critical geometry after conversion.

SLDASM assembly guides
A partial assembly can still render and can still produce numerical properties for what loaded. That does not make the result a complete assembly total.
What to verify
For every SolidWorks handoff, check:
- source revision and configuration;
- file version when compatibility is uncertain;
- assembly dependency completeness;
- one known dimension and units;
- component/body scope;
- receiving-side STEP result when conversion is used.
Native editing versus neutral exchange
A browser viewer and STEP converter are useful for inspection and cross-CAD handoffs. They do not recreate SolidWorks sketches, feature history, mates, equations or configuration logic as native editable features.
Keep the original SolidWorks package when future design edits or traceability matter.
