# Open CAD Files: Identify Formats and Resolve Import Problems

Choose a reader, preserve assembly references, and verify loaded scope before using a CAD model.

Confirm the source application and saving version. PRT can mean NX or Creo; a file extension alone is insufficient. Keep originals unchanged. Native readers depend on version and geometry, and unsupported formats need an export from the authoring application.

Read warnings, confirm one known dimension and preserve units and scope. Files are processed on the server; see [privacy](https://www.cadprops.com/privacy/index.md) and [accuracy](https://www.cadprops.com/accuracy/index.md). [Browse all guides](https://www.cadprops.com/guides/index.md).
